In recent weeks we’ve seen an uptick in phishing/fake emails and TXT/SMS messages asking people to access voicemails.
In most cases, the emails will contain a link to a fake web page asking you to logon to your email system. Please beware of fake logon pages used to steal passwords and thus gain access to your email, after which the bad actors often use scripting to delete emails from your mailbox and send out phishing emails from you.
The SMS messages are often an attempt to install malware on your phone. We strongly recommend not clicking on any links in SMS/TXT messages unless you’re sure it’s not a bad link.
Ever since the pandemic started, vishing has gotten out of control. I’m receiving 5-10 vishing messages a week and I don’t think it will go away anytime soon.
Yes, we’ve also experienced a similar increase in vishing attempts, ourselves and our customers. Training and awareness is key!
